Last I checked MBNA allowed +ve balances to current account on any old card. I now mule +ve balances through the linked to card, no fee.

Yes, I can confirm it's possible to transfer +ve balances from MBNA cards to current accounts. I did so as recently as 2nd December with my Virgin Atlantic card and a 5.7k transfer.

You must call them though; using the online balance transfer option attracts a fee.

Whilst I do prefer to make the requests by phone, there's also a "credit balance refund" option within online banking for those that don't. At least there is with my VA card anyway.

Thanks for the responses. I've got the MBNA paperwork at home, at first glance it looks like they'll charge for money transfers.

My 5% savings pot has fallen through, so I'll look at opening a current account with high interest - or I'll just forget the whole shebang as too much trouble!

Time is very precious - this is looking like being more hassle than I have the time for - unlike the good old days...

Cheers, and a Happy New Year,

Spikey.

Just to inform the forum. Recently hat I put my Lloyds Platinum Card in Credit by just under 6000 by coincidence as I did the Balance transfer twice. I then call them, to transfer it to my CLloyds Accounts. There quizzed how could that happen, I explained to them what happen and they told me that they will transfer it . I just checked it a few days ago it has been transfer.

So other people might want to try their luck with Lloyds Platinum as a mule card fro Balance transfer.

Hi

I haven't stoozed for years and have forgotten the details of moving the balance to a bank account, directly or via another card.

What s the cheapest and most efficient way at present?

Thanks.

https://www.mbna.co.uk/compare-credit-cards/low-rate-credit-cards/ works for me. As has been said other mbna cards will pay away positive balances, I left a small +ve balance on my Virgin card, when I asked via secure messaging they asked me to call to confirm details but I left it there and few months later they just sent me a cheque. Higher up this thread someone confirms Barclays will do the same.
